The River Club Wetland Mitigation Project

Ecological Solutions, Inc. was contracted by Crescent Resources, LLC to collaborate with Greg Norman Golf Course Design Company and project engineers in the design of two wetland restoration projects adjacent to an 18-hole championship golf course within The River Club residential development. Wetland restoration consisted of converting two farm ponds, totaling 14 acres, into diverse wetland systems containing mosaics of bottomland hardwood forests, herbaceous emergent and shrub/scrub wetlands, and open water habitat.

The farm ponds are located adjacent to the Chattahoochee River. Ecological Solutions worked closely with Greg Norman Golf Course Design Company to produce a design that incorporated open water and landscaped areas adjacent to golf course areas. Vegetation specified in the planting plan consisted primarily of native flowering species that were suitable to prevailing sunlight and soil moisture conditions. Ecological Solutions also collaborated with project engineers to design the systems to function as both stormwater treatment facilities and holding ponds for reuse water prior to its application onto the golf course. The final design effectively met all golf course design and engineering objectives, while still providing important habitat to wildlife within the Chattahoochee River corridor and complying with all Federal, State and County regulations.
