GDOT Mitigation Program Management

Ecological Solutions Inc. is a majority member of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) Mitigation Program Management Team that has been awarded a three year contract with GDOT to assess, organize, and execute their statewide wetland and stream mitigation program for all transportation projects.

The current program encompasses 167 mitigation sites consisting of approximately 27,000 acres of sensitive habitat such as wetlands, streams, and other special aquatic sites. Several of these sites contain habitat for Federal and State listed threatened and endangered species.

During the contracts duration, approximately 42 new bank sites are planned for development across the state to provide the necessary compensatory mitigation for delivery of the forecasted Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and Construction Work Program.

The existing sites and their associated documentation are in various stages of development and regulatory compliance. The team is tasked with identifying sites, assisting with purchase documentation, developing banking instruments, designing sites, overseeing construction, performing monitoring, and developing a filing structure and database to track the volume of documentation and regulatory commitments. 

 

 

The Program Management Team is tasked with managing these sites, as well as future projects, through the regulatory process. Ecological Solutions’ primary responsibilities include overall program management, project management for search and development tasks, right of way tasks, planning and design task, and regulatory coordination for all aspects of the program.

In addition, Ecological Solutions, Inc. personnel are acting as the task manager assigned to perform search and development tasks for the development of new mitigation opportunities.

Ecological Solutions, Inc. is also providing services to the team in the form of: stream and wetland design, protocol development, site purchase coordination, stream and wetland monitoring, NEPA clearance, archeological and historical investigations coordination, utility easement coordination, baseline assessments, fish and benthic invertebrate surveys, and applicable regulatory agency coordination.

Ecological Solutions, Inc. has two full time staff on location at the GDOT Office of Environment and Location and has 10 additional staff involved in project work on a weekly basis.
