Bat Team Leader/Biologist

Ecological Solutions, Inc., an environmental consulting firm in Roswell, Georgia, is seeking qualified applicants to assist with fill a seasonal position of bat team leaders for the 2017 summer field season. Qualified applicants must possess a Section 10 Federal Endangered Bat Species permit for the endangered Indiana bat and gray bat, and the listed as threatened northern long-eared bat.

Job Duties

In addition to required night work, applicants can expect to work long days, often 7 days per week, with constant travel during the summer field season. This position requires lifting heavy equipment, working and hiking in challenging environments, rugged and uneven terrain or waist deep water. Daily duties include project logistics, data management, reports, equipment maintenance, decontamination procedures, team and safety management, and land-owner contact. A team leader is expected to independently manage all the tasks that are required to run a bat survey. Travel required.

Minimum Qualification:

A federal endangered species permit for the Indiana bat, gray bat and northern long-eared bat is required. Competent with knowledge of bat ecology and habitat requirements.  Documentation of recent rabies pre-exposure vaccination or titer check within the last two years
Documentation of recent rabies pre-exposure vaccination or titer check within the last two years
Knowledge of federal and state level regulations for compliance with bat surveys
Experience with Acoustic equipment and analysis
Capability to select mist net sites, properly set mist nets, management and proficiency in safe removal of bats from nets, identifying bat species, and applying transmitters
Experience with telemetry, orienteering, vegetation in the southeast, and emergence counts
Skill set needed: leadership, logistics management, clear communication, precise data collection, positive attitude, professionalism, and a team member
At least a B.S. in a wildlife related field
Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Start:

May 2017 - Start date is negotiable and we will consider a shorter period position for qualified applicants who are looking for a shorter survey time frame.

Location:

Office based in Roswell, Georgia, travel is throughout the southeast
